📊 Visualizing Traces in Grafana
Tempo works silently in the background, so all your hands-on trace analysis will happen right inside Grafana.
Here is how to hunt down a trace:
- Open Grafana and hit the Explore tab (the compass icon on the left). 🧭
- Choose Tempo from the data source dropdown at the top left.
- Start exploring! You have two ways to search:
- 🆔 Trace ID: Got an exact Trace ID from an error log? Paste it straight into the search bar to instantly pull up the request waterfall!
- 🔎 Search Explorer: Use the visual builder to hunt for traces based on specific tags, service names, or even slow response durations.
🪄 Trace to Logs (The Magic Pivot)
When you are staring at a massive trace waterfall, pay close attention to the individual spans.
If you see a tiny document icon next to a span, click it! This will seamlessly pivot you straight into Loki, instantly revealing the exact logs generated during that specific microsecond of the request! It is an absolute game-changer for debugging slow or failed requests. 🎯
